Recent UK CPI data show inflation rising to 2.9% in July 2026 from 2.6% in June, driven primarily by higher energy costs following the Ofgem price cap increase and elevated global oil and gas prices tied to Middle East tensions. The Bank of England’s July Monetary Policy Report projects a further near-term pickup to around 3.2% by late 2026 before easing, with risks tilted to the upside from potential second-round effects in wages and prices. This environment supports the close contest between the 3.5–3.9% and 2.0–2.4% brackets in trader-implied probabilities, as markets weigh the persistence of the energy shock against underlying disinflation in core goods and services. Key upcoming releases include August CPI on September 16 and the next BoE rate decision, which could clarify the path for the full-year 2026 average.
