The August ISM Services PMI release at 55.4, exceeding consensus estimates near 54.2-54.3, has shaped near-term expectations for the September reading by highlighting resilient demand amid countervailing pressures. New orders and business activity indices accelerated notably, while supplier deliveries signaled ongoing strains and the employment sub-index remained in contraction for a second month. Elevated prices paid, reaching 72.6 amid tariffs and Middle East-related oil cost pressures, underscore persistent inflation risks that could influence Federal Reserve policy expectations. With the 12-month average now at 53.7 and recent readings clustered in the low-to-mid 50s, trader-implied probabilities favor a September outcome in the 54.0-55.9 range as the most likely extension of this moderate expansion trend.
