Republican incumbent Greg Murphy holds a strong position in North Carolina's 3rd congressional district ahead of the November 3, 2026, general election. The seat's partisan lean and Cook Political Report rating as Solid or Likely Republican reflect its consistent support for GOP candidates, including Murphy's 77 percent win in 2024. October 2025 redistricting adjusted boundaries by shifting voters between adjacent districts, modestly reducing the Republican edge but leaving the area safely out of reach for Democrats. Raymond Smith Jr. emerged as the Democratic nominee after the March 2026 primary, yet no high-profile challenger has mounted a serious campaign. Trader consensus at roughly 85 percent for Republicans tracks with the district's structural advantages, limited Democratic infrastructure, and absence of recent events capable of narrowing the gap before Election Day.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
