Recent MetService and international model guidance, including ECMWF and GFS runs, places Wellington’s September 5 maximum near 14–16 °C under a northwest flow that brings mild air but also strong winds and variable cloud. This narrow range underpins the near-even market split between 15 °C and 16 °C, with traders weighing subtle differences in forecast timing of any clearing versus showers. Coastal moderation and rapid changes in wind direction typical of the region add further uncertainty, while historical September highs average near 15 °C. Updated model runs and official MetService briefings through September 4 remain the key catalysts that could shift implied probabilities before the daily maximum is recorded.
