Trader consensus centers on the USGS historical average of 15–18 magnitude 7.0–7.9 earthquakes per year, positioning the 14–16 outcome as the frontrunner amid roughly 8–10 confirmed events through July 2026. Recent activity, including a 7.8 offshore the Philippines and a 7.5 near Venezuela, has kept the pace slightly below normal, yet traders anticipate typical clustering along major subduction zones in the second half. Inherent year-to-year variability, irregular aftershock sequences, and the continued absence of any magnitude 8.0+ events introduce uncertainty that supports the nearby 17–19 and 11–13 bins. Resolution will hinge on whether global catalogs rebound toward baseline rates before December.
