Masoud Pezeshkian remains Iran's president amid reports of internal power struggles following the 2026 U.S.-Israel conflict and the March assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. On May 31, 2026, unconfirmed reports indicated he submitted a resignation letter citing exclusion from major decisions and growing IRGC influence, though Iranian authorities quickly denied the claims. Ongoing U.S.-Iran diplomatic talks and regional security dynamics add pressure, while constitutional succession rules and any acceptance of a resignation by the Supreme Leader's office could determine timing. Trader consensus reflects uncertainty over whether these frictions will lead to an early exit or continued tenure under the new leadership structure.
