Recent National Weather Service and model guidance place Chicago’s September 12 high near 85 °F under mostly sunny skies and southwest flow, supporting the near-even market split between the 84–85 °F and 86–87 °F bins. Key differentiating factors include the strength and timing of any lake-breeze or cloud-cover development, which can cap afternoon temperatures by 1–3 °F, and minor model differences in boundary-layer mixing and dew-point advection. With the date’s climatological average high near 78 °F, the current warm anomaly is driven by persistent southerly transport ahead of an approaching front; traders are weighing the latest hourly observations and short-range model runs that will determine whether the peak registers in the lower or upper half of the mid-80s range.
