Trader consensus heavily favors former President Rumen Radev as next Prime Minister, reflecting polls showing his new Progressive Bulgaria party leading ahead of the April 19 snap parliamentary election—Bulgaria's eighth in five years amid chronic instability. Radev resigned in January 2026 to launch an anti-corruption platform appealing to rural and older voters frustrated with oligarch influence and repeated government failures, including the late-2025 Zhelyazkov cabinet collapse that prompted current caretaker PM Andrey Gyurov's February appointment by President Iliana Iotova. His commanding position stems from this voter backlash and pro-Russian leanings amid EU tensions. Upsets could arise from an election surprise denying his party the largest seat share, failed coalition negotiations post-vote, or Iotova awarding initial mandates elsewhere under constitutional rules.
