Incumbent Republican Steve Scalise maintains a dominant position in Louisiana’s 1st congressional district ahead of the November 3 jungle primary. The district’s consistent Republican voting patterns, Scalise’s tenure since 2008, and his role as House Majority Leader support strong fundraising and endorsements that limit the impact of challengers including Republican Randall Arrington and Democrat Lauren Jewett. Recent redistricting following the Supreme Court ruling in Louisiana v. Callais and a new map signed in May 2026 preserved the seat’s partisan balance without creating competitive openings. With no major scandals, health developments, or polling shifts reported in recent weeks, trader consensus assigns high probability to an outright majority in the first round rather than a December runoff.
