Traders are positioning around 33–34°C for Kuala Lumpur’s September 4 maximum, reflecting official Malaysian Meteorological Department guidance of 35°C amid scattered afternoon thunderstorms and morning haze, alongside ensemble forecasts from sources like the Met Office and Yr.no showing afternoon peaks near 33–34°C. Typical September climatology supports highs of 32–33°C, but persistent El Niño conditions—evidenced by Niño-3.4 anomalies above +1°C—favor above-normal temperatures and reduced rainfall across the Maritime Continent, elevating the chance of reaching 34°C. Thunderstorm development and associated cloud cover introduce uncertainty that could limit the peak, keeping 35°C a lower-probability outcome while historical September records and current model consensus anchor sentiment near the 33–34°C range.
