Chang San-cheng, the incumbent Kuomintang mayor seeking re-election in Taiwan’s November 28, 2026 local elections, holds a commanding position in the Taoyuan race. Recent polling from earlier in 2026 showed him ahead of Democratic Progressive Party challengers, including the party’s April nominee Huang Shih-chieh, while KMT efforts to consolidate support for incumbents have reinforced his standing. Traders’ consensus reflects this incumbency advantage and limited opposition momentum to date. A shift would require major late developments such as unexpected scandals, sharp changes in turnout among key voting blocs, or significant new policy contrasts that alter the current balance ahead of the campaign period starting in November.
