Recent redistricting following Virginia's April 2026 ballot measure has reshaped VA-01's boundaries, incorporating more competitive suburban areas near Richmond while retaining rural Northern Neck strongholds that favored Republicans in 2024. Incumbent Rob Wittman faces an August primary, with Democratic contenders including Elizabeth Beggs and Salaam Bhatti advancing through their own contest on the same date. Early polling and fundraising data reflect a narrow contest, as the altered map and national midterm dynamics keep both parties competitive heading into the November general election.
