Recent National Weather Service guidance and model consensus indicate onshore southwest flow and a deepening marine layer will moderate temperatures across Los Angeles on September 1, limiting peak heating despite mostly sunny skies. Highs are projected in the low-to-mid 80s at downtown and coastal stations, several degrees above the long-term September 1 average of roughly 77°F but well below earlier heat-wave levels. Key variables separating the closely matched 76–79°F market outcomes include the precise depth and timing of marine-layer clearing, local wind speeds that enhance or suppress mixing, and minor model differences in subsidence strength. Updated NWS and NOAA short-range guidance expected within 24 hours will refine these details ahead of resolution.
