The closed primary among Socialist Party, Place Publique, and Gauche républicaine et sociale members features seven declared candidates, with Olivier Faure and Raphaël Glucksmann positioned as the leading contenders based on early positioning and party influence. Recent weeks have seen internal tensions over participation rules, including disputes about opening the vote to outsiders such as François Ruffin and debates over a 15-euro participation fee, alongside scheduled televised debates in late September and early October. These factors, combined with the two-round structure set for 9–10 and 16–17 October, have shaped trader consensus that no single candidate is positioned to secure an absolute majority on the first ballot.
