Recent National Weather Service and model guidance point to a high near 87–88°F for Chicago on September 3 as a cold front and increased cloud cover moderate the ongoing heat wave, with southwest winds shifting and 30–40% storm chances inland. This aligns with the market’s tight clustering around 86–91°F, where traders weigh the balance between peak solar heating before afternoon convection and lake-breeze cooling that can cap readings near the shoreline. Historical September averages near 80°F and the recent run of 92–93°F days underscore the transitional pattern, while forecast uncertainty centers on exact storm timing and coverage that could shave or preserve a degree or two from model maxima.
