Redistricting stands as the dominant factor shaping trader consensus in the Missouri 5th congressional district race. State Republicans enacted a new map in 2025 that extends the district eastward from Kansas City through additional counties, shifting its partisan lean to R+9 and prompting Cook Political Report to rate it Solid Republican following court approval in May 2026. Incumbent Democrat Emanuel Cleaver faces this altered electorate alongside a crowded Republican primary field that includes state Sen. Rick Brattin and other candidates ahead of the August 4 primary. The general election on November 3 will test whether the map’s structural changes outweigh Cleaver’s long incumbency and urban base in a contest now viewed as significantly more competitive for Republicans.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
