Recent National Weather Service guidance and ensemble model runs indicate a high near 91°F for Houston on September 2, 2026, with partly sunny skies, south winds of 5–10 mph, and a 50% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. High humidity and potential cloud cover from Gulf moisture are the main factors keeping the daily maximum in the upper 80s to low 90s rather than allowing stronger heating. The near-even market split between the 88–89°F and 90–91°F bins reflects small forecast differences in the timing and coverage of convection, which can shave several degrees off the peak if storms develop earlier than modeled. Historical averages near 91.5°F provide context, but the current pattern favors modest suppression of the high.
