Recent August CPI data showed China's annual inflation rebounding to 0.8% from July's 0.5%, fueled by higher transport and non-food prices amid elevated energy costs and travel demand, while food prices continued declining due to weak pork and consumption trends. Core inflation edged up to 1.0%, reflecting partial pass-through from producer prices that climbed to 3.8% on commodity and tech input pressures linked to global tensions. Persistent domestic demand weakness and property-sector drag limit broader reflation, leaving September outcomes closely balanced between the 0.7-0.8% and 0.9-1.0% ranges. Trader positioning reflects uncertainty over whether energy-driven momentum sustains or moderates before the mid-October release, with any shift in oil prices or policy support potentially widening the gap.
