Incumbent Republican Mike Flood faces Democratic nominee Chris Backemeyer in Nebraska’s 1st congressional district, a seat covering eastern areas around Lincoln and Omaha suburbs with a consistent Republican tilt. Flood won reelection in 2024 with 60 percent and secured his party’s nomination unopposed in the May 2026 primary, while Backemeyer emerged from a contested Democratic contest. Available polling from May shows Flood ahead by roughly seven points, and nonpartisan ratings classify the race as solidly or safely Republican. These elements align with trader consensus favoring the Republican Party at current market levels, reflecting the district’s electoral history, incumbency advantages, and absence of major late developments that would typically narrow the gap.
