Recent South Korean CPI prints near 3.1% year-over-year in August, combined with sharp upward revisions to 2026 GDP forecasts by the OECD to 3.7% and ADB to 3.2%, have tightened the range of implied annual inflation outcomes around 2.7-3.0%. Strong semiconductor-led exports and elevated global energy prices support the higher 3.0%+ band, while the Bank of Korea’s back-to-back rate hikes to 3.00% and government price-stabilization efforts anchor expectations near its 2.7% projection. With the three leading buckets separated by just a few percentage points, trader positioning reflects uncertainty over whether demand momentum or tighter monetary conditions will dominate the remainder of the year, with upcoming monthly CPI releases and any further BOK communications as key near-term catalysts.
