Tennessee's 5th congressional district, redrawn in May 2026, features a partisan voting index favoring Republicans by roughly 10 points. The August 6 Republican primary produced a key shift when former state Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Hatcher defeated incumbent Rep. Andy Ogles, viewed by many as a polarizing figure. Hatcher now faces Democratic nominee Chaz Molder, the Columbia mayor, in the November general election. Cook Political Report rates the seat Likely Republican, reflecting the district's structural lean, Hatcher's stronger profile as a statewide officeholder with establishment support, and limited evidence of Democratic competitiveness in recent polling or fundraising data. These elements underpin trader consensus on the Republican outcome while leaving room for late-cycle developments such as turnout shifts or national political events to influence the final margin.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
