Recent National Weather Service guidance and ensemble model runs point to overnight lows in the mid- to upper 50s°F for Chicago on September 14, driven by northwest flow advecting cooler, drier air behind a frontal passage and mostly clear skies promoting radiational cooling. Historical climatology places the average September 14 low near 59°F, but current steering patterns and reduced humidity favor values several degrees below that baseline. Key uncertainties center on exact wind speeds overnight, which could limit mixing and allow deeper cooling, versus any late-arriving cloud cover that would moderate the minimum. Traders are pricing tight spreads around 52–55°F because small shifts in these variables or model consensus updates over the next 48 hours could easily move the realized low across multiple market bins.
