Iryna Shymanovich holds an edge in this WTA 125 Newport grass-court opener due to greater experience on the surface and a deeper recent run at Wimbledon, where she advanced through qualifying before a first-round main-draw exit. The Belarusian, ranked near 215, brings a strong career record and solid grass-court results, while Japanese player Hayu Kinoshita, ranked around 227, has posted a strong 34-13 mark but primarily on hard courts and exited early in Wimbledon qualifying. No prior head-to-head exists, making surface adaptation and current form the decisive factors; any late withdrawals or weather-related court conditions on the outdoor grass could shift the competitive balance.
