Recent polling from early September 2026 shows President Trump's approval rating holding near historic lows for his second term, between 33% and 40% across aggregators, with net ratings around -19 to -20. Persistent voter dissatisfaction with the economy and cost of living remains the dominant factor, including reactions to new tariffs such as the 50% levy on certain Canadian goods and elevated gas prices tied to the Iran conflict. Surveys from FT/Focaldata and NBC News indicate slipping support even among Republicans, with strong approval among the GOP base dropping notably. These trends, amid midterm election pressures, underpin trader consensus favoring a further decline this week.
