Recent forecast consensus from MetService and international models points to a high of 14–15°C in Wellington on September 17, driven by a shift to southerly winds behind a front that will suppress daytime warming while bringing cloud cover and moderate rain. This aligns with typical early-spring conditions, where average highs reach only about 13–14°C and northerly flows that might allow brief warming are limited. The market’s heavy weighting toward 15°C reflects model runs showing peak readings near midday before stronger southerlies arrive, though small revisions in wind timing or cloud thickness could still shift the outcome by 1°C. Updated short-range guidance expected overnight will provide the final signal before resolution.
