Incumbent Democrat Troy Carter holds a commanding position in Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District ahead of the November 3, 2026, jungle primary. The district’s strong Democratic lean, reflected in Carter’s prior outright victories exceeding 50 percent, combines with limited opposition—primarily fellow Democrat Renada Collins and minor candidates from other parties—to sustain trader expectations of a first-round majority. Recent Supreme Court action in Louisiana v. Callais led to a new congressional map and reversion to the open primary format for House races, yet the district’s composition and Carter’s established party endorsements and fundraising have kept competitive threats minimal. An outright win would resolve the contest without a December runoff.
