**Multiple Republican candidates are competing for the open LA-05 seat in Louisiana’s November 3, 2026 jungle primary, making an outright majority win unlikely.** Incumbent Julia Letlow’s January 2026 decision to run for U.S. Senate created the vacancy. Recent court-ordered redistricting and August qualifying produced a crowded field that includes state Sen. Stewart Cathey, state Rep. Gabe Firment, and additional Republican and Democratic entrants. In Louisiana’s majority-vote system, all candidates appear on one ballot; 50% is required to avoid the December 12 runoff. Historical patterns in similar open-seat jungle primaries show vote fragmentation among co-partisans typically prevents any candidate from reaching that threshold on the first ballot. Trader consensus reflected in the 92.5% “No” price aligns with these structural dynamics.
