Incumbent Rep. Bob Latta (R) stands unopposed in the May 5 Republican primary for Ohio's 5th Congressional District, a solidly Republican seat with a Cook Partisan Voting Index of R+12, anchoring trader consensus at 89.5% for a GOP win under the new map enacted in October 2025. Recent filings by four Democrats—including Brian Shaver and Scott Tabor—over the past week have set up a contested Democratic primary, as Ohio Democrats aim to challenge the Latta family's nearly 50-year congressional dominance in northwest Ohio. However, the district's conservative lean, Latta's fundraising edge, and historical base rates for safe incumbents keep Democratic odds at 9%, with the November 3 general election unlikely to shift absent major scandals or national wave dynamics.
