Ousted Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro faces four federal counts in SDNY, including narcoterrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation, and weapons possession, stemming from a January 2026 superseding indictment; he and co-defendant wife Cilia Flores pleaded not guilty after U.S. capture in Caracas. A March 26 hearing before Judge Alvin Hellerstein rejected defense motions to dismiss over blocked Venezuelan funds for legal fees—despite judicial skepticism of sanctions—allowing pretrial proceedings to advance amid discovery and scheduling. Traders' 78.5% "No" consensus reflects the narcoterrorism statute's poor trial record (few convictions, most pleas), evidentiary hurdles in absentia-style cases, and Maduro's denial of charges as political persecution, with no verdict timeline set.
