NDP Premier David Eby called a snap provincial election for October 24 amid internal turmoil in the Conservative Party, including the recent resignation of leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay, the appointment of interim leader Lorne Doerkson, and multiple MLA defections to splinter groups such as CentreBC and OneBC. Recent polling conducted around the writ drop shows the NDP holding a narrow lead of roughly 41-45% to the Conservatives' 35-39%, with the Greens at 10-13% and smaller parties splitting the remainder. Traders appear to price the NDP as the clear favorite due to the timing of the call, the opposition's ongoing leadership and cohesion challenges, and the historical advantages of incumbency in a short campaign window, while fragmented right-of-centre support limits the Conservatives' path to a majority in the 93-seat legislature.
