Recent ensemble forecasts from models including ECMWF and regional guidance indicate a peak of 32–33°C in Madrid on September 22 under clear skies and light southerly flow, well above the 1991–2020 daily average high of 25.1°C. Persistent high pressure and minimal cloud cover have supported above-normal warmth across central Spain through mid-September, with recent observations showing daytime maxima 4–6°C above climatology. Market-implied odds favor 34°C as the most likely outcome, reflecting trader assessment of potential model underestimation during peak insolation and urban heat effects, while lower probabilities on 35°C+ or sub-32°C align with the narrow uncertainty range in short-range guidance ahead of the final 48-hour forecast updates.
