**Eric Woodward, the incumbent mayor running with the Progress For Langley slate, holds the strongest position in the October 17, 2026, Langley Township mayoral race, while challenger Jay Lundgren of the Langley Strong slate represents the main organized opposition.** Woodward benefits from incumbency, a record of completed infrastructure projects such as road widenings, fire halls, and arena expansions at the Langley Events Centre, and a current five-to-four council majority. Lundgren, a local business leader and community volunteer, leads a unified team that includes four sitting councillors and emphasizes fiscal restraint amid reported sharp rises in per-household debt since 2022. Recent developments sustaining the tight contest include ongoing legal proceedings—a July petition seeking to disqualify Woodward and two councillors over prior use of public funds in a defamation matter, with responses filed in August—and campaign clashes over election signage, debt audits, and growth planning. Slate dynamics, voter priorities on taxes, infrastructure, and transparent governance, plus the absence of strong independent contenders, keep the race centered on these two candidates with limited room for others to gain traction before election day.
