Q1 2026 tech layoffs have surged past 78,000–95,000 workers across 240+ events, per trackers like Layoffs.fyi and TrueUp.io—a 40% jump from Q1 2025—propelling the market-implied 80.5% probability for "Up" in total 2026 layoffs versus 2025. Traders cite aggressive AI-driven restructuring at firms like Meta, Amazon, Oracle, Atlassian, and Snap (recently cutting 1,000 jobs), with nearly 50% of cuts tied to automation and workforce optimization for artificial intelligence investments amid slowing growth and macroeconomic pressures. This skin-in-the-game consensus reflects expectations of sustained cuts through year-end earnings and further AI rollouts, though economic rebound or hiring freezes easing could temper the pace.
