Provisional results from Benin's April 12, 2026, presidential election show Finance Minister Romuald Wadagni securing over 94% of votes with more than 90% of ballots counted, prompting opposition candidate Paul Hounkpè to concede defeat and driving trader consensus to 98.5% on his presidency. As President Patrice Talon's endorsed successor, Wadagni benefited from ruling party dominance following January parliamentary elections and voter turnout near 59%, reflecting strong continuity in governance amid northern security challenges from jihadist insurgency. While official certification by the National Autonomous Electoral Commission (CENA) awaits, potential shifts could arise from rare legal challenges, proven irregularities, or post-election disputes, though Hounkpè's concession minimizes such risks.
