Daniel Ennis, the Social Democrats candidate and local councillor, holds a dominant position in the Dublin Central by-election market due to strong local name recognition from his 2024 council win, effective campaigning on inner-city issues, and favorable transfer patterns under Ireland’s PR-STV system from other centre-left and independent voters. The contest follows the resignation of former Fine Gael TD Paschal Donohoe, with polling on 22 May showing low turnout around 40 percent. Janice Boylan of Sinn Féin leads some first-preference estimates but trails significantly overall, while independent contenders including Gerry Hutch remain marginal. Traders appear to view Ennis as the clear frontrunner absent major late shifts in count dynamics.
