David Eby’s call for a snap provincial election on October 24 has anchored trader consensus around his continued role as premier. The NDP leader acted amid opposition volatility, including recent Conservative leadership turnover, John Rustad’s decision not to seek re-election, and the interim status of Lorne Doerkson. Recent polling shows the NDP holding a double-digit lead, while external pressures such as U.S. trade tensions have allowed Eby to frame the vote as a stability mandate. These factors have lifted Eby’s implied probability well above other named candidates, though the short campaign window and fragmented right-of-centre vote leave room for late shifts in voter turnout or coalition dynamics before results determine the outcome.
