British Columbia Premier David Eby’s September 22 snap election call for October 24 has positioned the NDP as the frontrunner in trader assessments, capitalizing on recent disarray within the Conservative opposition. Recent polling shows the NDP ahead of the Conservatives by roughly five points among decided voters, with the Greens and smaller parties trailing further behind. Conservative ranks have seen rapid shifts, including the resignation of former leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay, the appointment of interim leader Lorne Doerkson, and the return of several MLAs from CentreBC, consolidating the main right-of-centre vote but leaving limited time for stabilization before ballots. These developments, combined with the NDP’s existing legislative majority and regional strengths in urban areas, underpin the current market pricing ahead of the vote.
