Adama Barrow, the incumbent National People’s Party leader seeking a third term, leads the December 5, 2026, first-past-the-post presidential contest as the clear frontrunner in trader pricing. Recent August polling showed him at 51% on perceived electability, well ahead of Ousainou Darboe (UDP) at 23% and Talib Ahmed Bensouda at 12%, with Barrow strongest across most regions. His June manifesto launch and nine-point development agenda reinforced his record on infrastructure and services. September power blackouts triggered protests and a national emergency declaration, prompting Barrow’s pledges for a 24-megawatt unit by October and a new solar plant, though these events have not yet shifted the overall market positioning. A fragmented opposition, including multiple independent and coalition efforts, has limited unified challenges, sustaining the implied probability gap.
