Montana’s 1st Congressional District remains an open-seat contest after incumbent Ryan Zinke declined to seek re-election. Republican nominee Aaron Flint and Democratic nominee Sam Forstag advanced from their June 2 primaries. The district carries a modest Republican lean, reflected in its R+5 Partisan Voting Index and the prior incumbent’s 2024 margin. A late-June poll showed the race tied at 44 percent each, consistent with trader pricing that places Republicans at 55 percent and Democrats at 40.5 percent. Most nonpartisan ratings classify the seat as Likely Republican, though the absence of an incumbent and midterm dynamics introduce uncertainty. No new public polling has emerged since June, leaving fundraising, turnout patterns, and any national environment shifts as the main variables still able to influence the November 3 outcome.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
