Short-range forecast consensus from NWS and private models indicates Chicago overnight lows on September 17 will likely settle in the mid-to-upper 60s°F, driven by persistent cloud cover, elevated dew points near 60°F, and light southerly flow that limits radiational cooling. These conditions follow recent showers and thunderstorms, which have kept surface temperatures above seasonal normals (historical average low near 58°F). Minor model differences in the timing of any partial clearing or subtle wind shifts could shift the exact minimum across the tightly bunched 64–71°F outcome bins that dominate trader positioning. Updated NHC guidance and local model runs through September 16 remain the key near-term catalysts for any rebalancing.
