Aaron Ford secured the Democratic nomination in June 2026 by defeating Washoe County Commissioner Alexis Hill, positioning him as the clear challenger to incumbent Republican Governor Joe Lombardo in the November general election. Washoe County, home to Reno and a key swing area in Nevada elections, has shown Democratic strength in recent cycles, with Ford capturing a majority of the county's Democratic primary vote. Statewide polling through late July indicated a toss-up race overall, with Lombardo holding a modest edge in some aggregates but facing headwinds from economic concerns and national political dynamics. Traders appear to view these factors, combined with Washoe's demographic and voting patterns, as giving Ford the stronger position to carry the county, reflected in the current market pricing ahead of the November 3 contest.
