Paul St-Pierre Plamondon of the Parti Québécois holds the strongest position in the race for Quebec premier due to consistent polling leads for his party ahead of the October 5, 2026, general election, with recent surveys showing the PQ at around 29% support compared to the Coalition Avenir Québec at 23-24%. Incumbent Premier Christine Fréchette, who assumed the role in April after the CAQ leadership contest, faces headwinds from voter fatigue with the prior administration and a fragmented opposition, though her party has shown modest gains during the campaign. Key factors include debates over sovereignty timing, economic management, and federal relations, with seat projections favoring a PQ plurality but leaving room for shifts from late-campaign momentum or turnout among francophone voters. Other contenders trail significantly in both polls and market pricing.
