Ramzan Kadyrov remains Head of the Chechen Republic, a position he has held since 2007 under Kremlin oversight, despite recurring health rumors that intensified in January 2026 with unverified Ukrainian intelligence claims of kidney failure, which he rebutted via video appearances. His February absence from public view fueled succession speculation, including Kremlin discussions of replacements and his son Adam's rising profile, but Kadyrov resurfaced in late March inspecting infrastructure projects and reaffirmed readiness for 2026 elections. No official resignation, removal, or leadership change has occurred, with traders monitoring his health updates, Putin interventions, and potential regional instability amid Chechnya's role in Russia's Ukraine operations.
