Recent August CPI data at 0.8% year-on-year, driven by higher non-food and transport costs amid elevated energy prices and AI-related demand, has anchored trader views near the current 0.7-0.8% and 0.9-1.0% brackets. Persistent drags from weak food prices, subdued retail sales, and soft domestic consumption continue to limit upside momentum, while industrial output and producer prices show firmer trends. Forecasts from institutions such as the IMF point to a full-year 2026 rate around 1.2%, yet September-specific expectations cluster near 0.8% amid moderating global energy influences and limited new fiscal stimulus. This balance of cost-push factors against demand weakness keeps the two leading outcomes evenly matched, with any acceleration in consumption or further policy measures likely to shift probabilities.
