Incumbent Mark Sager and challenger Kirk LaPointe lead the field for West Vancouver’s October 17, 2026 mayoral election, with the race remaining closely contested amid a crowded field of declared and potential candidates. Sager, seeking a second consecutive term after his 2022 victory, emphasizes completed waterfront acquisitions, housing plans, and park protections while highlighting experience on Metro Vancouver issues. LaPointe, a former journalist who has long critiqued local spending and decision-making, stresses greater transparency, fiscal discipline, and resident consultation on taxes, development, and regional wastewater costs. With nominations opening September 1 and multiple other contenders possible, trader pricing reflects uncertainty over final ballot composition and how local concerns about growth and accountability will shape voter preferences in the final weeks.
