Recent Middle East geopolitical tensions have driven sharp increases in energy prices, pushing euro area HICP inflation higher through mid-2026 and prompting upward revisions to 2026 annual forecasts. July 2026 data showed headline inflation at 2.9%, with energy contributing 10.3% year-over-year, while Eurosystem staff projections place the full-year average at 3.0%, revised up 0.4 percentage points from March due to energy and indirect effects. Trader consensus on Polymarket heavily favors outcomes above 3.1%, consistent with August readings expected near 3.3% and limited evidence of rapid base-effect relief. Key upcoming catalysts include September ECB policy decisions and September flash HICP data, which will clarify whether energy-driven pressures sustain the elevated path through year-end.
