Recent MetService and international model consensus points to a maximum of 13–14 °C in Wellington on 10 September, driven by a northwest-to-southwest wind shift ahead of a cold front that will increase cloud cover and bring periods of rain. Springtime sea-surface temperatures around 12–13 °C and the moderating influence of Cook Strait winds limit daytime warming, while the expected 20–30 km/h southerly flow prevents temperatures from climbing above the mid-teens. Traders have concentrated probability on 14 °C (58 %) and 13 °C (30.5 %) because ensemble guidance shows only modest run-to-run variability and aligns closely with the long-term September mean high of 14–15 °C. Updated model runs tonight will refine the exact peak before the market resolves.
