Recent August data showed China's CPI rising to 0.8% year-on-year, rebounding from July's 0.5% low, fueled by higher energy and transport costs tied to global commodity pressures while food prices stayed negative and core inflation edged to 1.0%. Persistent weakness in domestic consumption, property sector drag, and soft household spending continue to cap broader price gains. These mixed signals—external cost support versus internal demand shortfalls—keep trader probabilities tightly clustered between the 0.7-0.8% and 0.9-1.0% bands. Any further oil or commodity volatility or policy measures aimed at boosting consumption could shift positioning ahead of the September release.
