Incumbent Democratic Rep. Jahana Hayes' commanding financial position and proven track record in Connecticut's 5th Congressional District—a Harris +6 battleground where she won 53-47 in 2024—drive trader consensus to an 84% implied probability of a Democratic hold, as reflected in Polymarket pricing. Recent Q1 2026 FEC reports highlight Hayes' $990,000 cash-on-hand versus top Republican challenger Chris Shea's $124,000, despite Shea's strong $163,000 raise, underscoring her campaign edge amid a crowded GOP field. The Cook Political Report rates the seat safely Democratic, with no notable Democratic primary challengers ahead of the June 9 filing deadline and August 11 primaries. National midterm dynamics or a consolidated Republican nominee could narrow odds, but current developments favor the incumbent.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
