Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins leads early vote tallies in Alaska’s August 18 top-four primary for the open governorship, positioning him as the frontrunner to finish first. With incumbent Mike Dunleavy term-limited, the nonpartisan blanket primary drew 17 candidates, but only two Democrats remained after Matt Claman’s late withdrawal, allowing Kreiss-Tomkins and Tom Begich to consolidate left-leaning support. Early precinct results showed Kreiss-Tomkins at roughly 21.6 percent and Begich near 20.1 percent, well ahead of the fragmented Republican field led by Bernadette Wilson and Dave Bronson. Kreiss-Tomkins’ strong fundraising, statewide outreach, and focus on education and fiscal issues have driven his edge, while the crowded GOP slate has split conservative votes. Absentee ballot counting through late August could adjust margins, yet current tallies underpin trader consensus on his first-place probability.
